A couple sitting of sofa in front of lit fire
HAVING a warm home this Christmas is the most important thing for six in 10 Britons. Some 59 per cent just want to be able to have a cosy festive season, a survey found. A heated home was closely followed by good health for their family (58 per cent).
Half of people said they feel grateful for NHS staff who continue to work hard over the holiday, while 38 per cent felt lucky to have clean, safe drinking water.
A fridge full of food was important for a third of people, and good friends and family, neighbours and a tight-knit community were also things that those lucky enough to have them are truly thankful for.
Don’t miss…
Two thirds (62 per cent) of the 2,000 Britons quizzed believe Christmas is about more than presents, shopping or tucking into a turkey lunch with all the trimmings.
Three quarters (74 per cent) said they are planning to make Christmas extra special this year but their priorities will be spending time with family rather than too much money.
Some 89 per cent of people said they feel thankful for everything they have at Christmas time, according to the poll commissioned by Hovis.
The company is giving away a free shopping voucher to key workers covering the Christmas period – from doctors and nurses, to police and firefighters.
Mark Brown, chief marketing officer at Hovis, said: “Britons are reflecting on what truly matters. It’s not about the mountain of presents, but the warmth of loved ones, the comfort of home, and gratitude for the everyday blessings. That’s why we are giving back to our holiday heroes, recognising their sacrifices with a small token of appreciation.”
Key workers can email [email protected] with their name and job description. The voucher is redeemable at leading supermarkets including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s.
