Piers Morgan slammed Britain’s “decaying state” online
has caused uproar online after the Uncensored host slammed Britain’s “decaying state” following the reopening of the Notre-Dame.
The medieval cathedral has been closed since a major fire tore through it in 2019, destroying its stained-glass windows and wooden interiors before toppling its spire.
More than 600 firefighters battled the blaze for 15 hours, saving the main structure of the 850-year-old building, including two of its bell towers.
At the time, the French culture ministry said millions of euros had been raised or pledged for the work. Today (December 7), the Prince of Wales will attend the reopening in Paris to mark the restoration of the world-famous Gothic building.
Following the exciting announcement, the 59-year-old took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share his disappointment at London’s buildings in response online.
:
Notre-Dame has reopened to the public five years after a major fire
He wrote: “In 2019, Notre-Dame burned down, and Hammersmith Bridge was shut to cars due to cracks. Today, Notre-Dame reopens, even more glorious than before.
“Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge remains shut to cars and will be for at least another five years. What a pathetic testament to Britain’s decaying state.”
It comes after hit out at GB News after the diversive channel revealed they had overtaken Sky News to secure 70,430 average monthly views.
The presenter, who hosts the Uncensored on YouTube, played it down. GB News’ viewing success is attributed to its founder’s claim that the ratings are “meagre” compared to his show’s audience of 3.5million subscribers.
In a post shared on X – formerly known as Twitter – Ben Briscoe, head of GB News programing wrote: “GB News overtakes Sky News. In November, GB News secured 70,430 average monthly live views compared to Sky News’ 67,670.”
In response, Piers penned: “good achievement, but those ratings are still so meagre… @PiersUncensored now has 3.5million subscribers and averages over 1.5million views for everything we post on our YouTube chanel.
“That’s ten times the combined GB/ Sky viewing numbers!! Linear TV is dying dast.” In the comments, people speculated that the reason online channels have better ratings is that people are not less inclined to “trust TV media” and also spend more time on their mobile devices.
One user typed: “How do they even keep the lights on with those numbers?” Another replied: “Legacy media is generally dying… those who adapt will survive.”
While a third typed: “Impressive growth for digital platforms – clearly, the shift to online is speeding up!” And a fourth commented: “Indeed – the numbers are no longer even comparable with with regular TV! The world has changed – so adapt or get the hell out!”
