Netflix film labelled the ‘next Die Hard’ is coming soon and viewers can’t wait

Carry-On airs on Netflix on December 13 and the action thriller film stars Taron Egerton as security agent Ethan Kopek. He is blackmailed by a mysterious traveller (played by Jason Bateman), whom he initially meets as a voice through an earpiece.

The antagonist asks him to wave a dangerous package through airport security on a Christmas Eve flight, putting hundreds of lives in danger. The action-packed trailer shows Ethan as he is forced into a cat-and-mouse game to stop the baddie in his tracks.

Carry-On director Jaume Collet-Serra admitted the film takes inspiration from Die Hard, telling the : “Everyone wants to make the next Die Hard and the reality is that no one ever will — it’s a perfect movie that can’t be replicated, and also a very specific product of its time.

“But when I read the script for Carry-On, I felt like I had found a more grounded version of Die Hard — which was our North Star for the entire process — for a new generation.”

Fans took to to discuss their excitement, with one saying: “I love all Phone Booth-type movies. Non-stop, The Commuter, Die Hard 3. Give me any movie of someone being anonymously blackmailed and they have to survive the situation.”

Another added: “This could be a treat. Evil Bateman is the best Bateman.” With a third adding: “So agree! I love all JB. He’s a hard worker, but I really love his evil. Reminiscent of Gene Hackman to me.”

Expressing their eagerness, a fourth said: “Looks very interesting. Good timing too, with many people flying for the holidays. I’ll be watching it as soon as it is released.”

The film also stars Sofia Carson as Ethan’s girlfriend and Danielle Deadwyler as Elena Cole, who is also on the hunt for Bateman’s character.

In 2021 ‘s Amblin Partners signed a deal with to produce multiple films for streaming.

Carry-On was originally planned to be the first film to come from the deal and it was written by T.J. Fixman.

On an estimated budget of $47 million, filming took place in New Orleans, Louisiana at the end of 2022.

Theo Rossi joined the cast in October 2022 with Dean Norris, Logan Marshall-Green and Sinqua Walls amongst the later additions.

“One bag for one life,” Bateman’s voice offers Egerton’s Ethan. warned: “It’s an offer he’ll be hard-pressed to refuse.”
