star Mark Withers has died at the age of 77 after a gruelling battle with pancreatic cancer, his daughter announced.

The American actor passed away on November 22 after battling with the disease for several years. In a statement to Variety on Friday (December 6), she opened up about his life and career.

She gushed: “He confronted his illness with the same strength and dignity he brought to his craft, creative a legacy of warmth, humour and dedication, along with his remarkable ability to make every role unforgettable.

“Mark’s enduring talent and commitment to the industry will be fondly remembered by colleagues, friends and fans alike.” The actor’s last on-screen role was back in 2019 – marking a four-decade career after he stepped into the world of in the 1970s.

In 2016, he played Coroner Gary in the smash hit sci-fi show Stranger Things during its first season. His role involved examining a dead body at the local morgue and he was called to the police station to talk to Chief Hopper.

He has a number of small roles on iconic hit shows including Womder Woman, Trapper John, M.D, Death of a Centerfold: The Dorothy Stratten Story, The Dukes of Hazzard, Hart to Hart, Remington Steele, Dallas and Matlock.

From 1986 to 1987, he also appeared on eight episodes of the iconic soap opera Days of Our Lives as Coach Locke. The TV favourite took a break from acting during the 1990s, apart form one film in 1998, before he returned to our screens with a role on sitcom Frasier in 2001.
