How to watch ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” will air on NBC on Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. ET, which is the same night the classic premiered years ago.

If you miss it, NBC is set to air an encore presentation of the holiday special on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. ET.

What is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’ about?

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” tells the story of a doe-eyed, red-nosed reindeer, who learns to love what makes him different from the other reindeers as he helps Santa out on Christmas Eve.

One of the most iconic lines from the stop-motion film is when Santa turns to Rudolph and says, “Rudolph, with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”

The story of Rudolph is based on a story created by Robert L. May in the 1930s, and it gained more popularity when Johnny Marks wrote a song about it in the 1940s.

NBC released its TV special in 1964, which saw more side-characters and a detailed storyline.

What is the impact of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’?To celebrate “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” turning 60, NBC’s Joe Fryer spoke to an original cast member about the beloved film and how it still resonates with fans.

“We had no idea that we would be seeing this for 60 years afterward,” actor Corinne Conley, who voiced Rudolph’s mother, says.

Conley added that “it’s nice to have been involved in something that affects people so warmly.”
