BBC Escape to the Country buyer misses out on dream home after major problem

house hunter was left speechless just moments after stepping into what seemed to be her dream house, but she was faced with an issue she couldn’t overlook.

During Thursday (December 5) instalment of the beloved series, host Denise Nurse made a comeback to help Julia on her quest to find the perfect rural dwelling.

Julia, who resides in the coastal Brighton and Hove, was looking for a significant change of scenery. She had her sights set on Norfolk so she could be closer to her relatives and cherish time with her eight year old grandson Harvey.

With £625,000 at her disposal, Julia is on the hunt for a charming property boasting three to four bedrooms and a garden that won’t be too demanding to maintain. Given her zest for life and community involvement, it’s crucial that she settles in an area endowed with a vibrant local scene and amenities at hand.

Denise arranged several viewings, yet it was the enigmatic house amid Hingham’s pastoral setting that captured Julias heart, reports .

This abode featured three bedrooms along with an expansive open plan living area complemented by a cozy snug, all soliciting offers above £600,000.

Upon entering, Julia found herself at a loss for words and exclaimed: “I’m quite taken back actually and that’s why the words are not quite coming out just because it has been so beautifully done and I’m enthusiastic.”

Julia was visibly impressed during her house tour, expressing her delight by saying: “The house has definitely delivered and I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. I love the wood features, the kitchen has been done up superbly.”

Yet, her enthusiasm waned upon inspecting the garden, as she noted its size exceeded her preferences.

Addressing the camera, Julia confessed: “I do have some reservations about the garden. It’s about twice the size of the plot that I probably would like but having said that the house is spot on.”

Despite her affection for the home, the expansive garden presented a significant hurdle for Julia. By week’s end, she opted against making an offer.

In conversation with Denise, she disclosed: “The third house, the Mystery House, has epitomised the kind of property that I would want and it’s got a really good feel for it.”

She conceded: “But the garden was a problem for me, plus because I haven’t sold my house yet – if I was going to take on a project like reconfiguring a garden, I need to know what money I’ve got and if I can afford it so that’s where I am with it all.”

Escape to the Country airs weekdays from 3pm on One and iPlayer.
