The New York Police Department on Thursday released two images of a “person of interest” they believe may be connected to the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The images offer views of the face of the person, who police say is “wanted for questioning regarding the Midtown Manhattan homicide,” which occurred early Wednesday outside a hotel.

The images show the person wearing a hooded jacket and carrying what seems to be a dark-colored backpack. Authorities on Wednesday had said that “the shooter appears to be a light-skinned male … wearing a light brown or cream-colored jacket, a black face mask, black-and-white sneakers, and a very distinctive gray backpack.”

Authorities also said Wednesday that Thompson’s shooting was believed to be a “premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack.”

Shell casings found near the 50-year-old CEO’s body reportedly had “deny” and other words inscribed on them, in what could potentially be a reference to health insurance companies’ tactics in denying patients’ claims, though this has not been confirmed.
