The Princess Royal was given a prominent seat next to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the top table in the ballroom.The Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, along with Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bin Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani in the evening, including Cornish lobster, Windsor pheasant, and an iced bombe for dessert. Music to accompany the evening was performed by The Hiraeth String Quartet composed of talented students from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.State visits are often a mix of elaborate ceremony and practical politics, offering hospitality on a grand scale to an important international partner.

At the dinner for the rest of the event, Anne was seen smiling and , which royal fans were quick to remember she had previously worn at a banquet in 1987, dubbing her the “Queen of recycling”.
At the time, Princess Anne was attending The King Fahd Banquet at Claridges Hotel in London during a state visit from King Fahd of .
On that occasion, King Fahd was the host of the event, while several senior members of the Royal Family were his guests, including the late , Prince Philip and the late Princess Diana.
As well as the dress, the Princess Royal also wore The Royal Family Order Of Queen Elizabeth II, which was pinned on a yellow ribbon.
