Trump Fires Off ‘Spectacularly Dumb’ 2-Word Post About Canada After Trudeau Jab

LOADINGERROR LOADING

Donald Trump posted a bizarre image depicting himself standing on a mountaintop beside a Canadian flag on Tuesday after he made headlines for a reported joke to the country’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

“Oh Canada!” Trump captioned the image, which appeared to have been generated by artificial intelligence.

Trudeau flew to Florida last week to meet the president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago estate after Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian products. Fox News reported that, during the meeting, Trump joked that if Canada’s economy can’t survive under the proposed tariffs, then perhaps Canada should become the 51st state of the U.S. and Trudeau could be its governor.

Trudeau reportedly laughed nervously at the comment.

Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who attended Friday’s dinner at Mar-a-Lago, later told reporters Trump was “teasing” and it was “in no way a serious comment.”

Critics quickly pointed out a flaw in Trump’s image: The mountain in it resembles the Matterhorn, which is in Switzerland, not Canada.

Thats the Matterhorn.

It’s in Switzerland, Einstein. pic.twitter.com/SKNq2Y8iR9

Donald Trump admires Canada so much, he went to Switzerland with our flag so he could gaze at it and the Matterhorn at the same time

However, a handful of people argued the formation looked a little bit like Mount Assiniboine in Canada’s British Columbia.

Actually no. It’s Mount Assiniboine. West of the British Columbia-Alberta border, 48 km southwest of Banff. Banff National Park forms the eastern boundary and Kootenay National Park marks the western boundary. pic.twitter.com/283Gqjl28f

Assiniboine on the left, Matterhorn on the right.

I’ll let you be the judge. 🤷🏻♂️ pic.twitter.com/ad1EIW2D07

AI-generated mountain aside, it’s peculiar for the U.S. president to be joking about annexing its neighbor, and people on social media said so, calling the post rude, unfunny, disrespectful and “spectacularly dumb.”

By far and away, my favourite thing about this spectacularly dumb post…Is that that’s THE MATTERHORN

There’s nothing funny or clever about the President-elect repeatedly “joking” that Canada should become part of the United States.

It’s going to be four long years with this deranged buffoon in the White House pic.twitter.com/9y3QEyL6Y6

We Canadians of all political stripes are very angry at this.

He has no respect for other nations.

I can assure you, most Canadians don’t find it in the least bit funny at all. He’s a felon, so he can’t even cross our border & we’d like to keep it that way.

Is Trump claiming Switzerland or Italy for Canada? That’s the Matterhorn.
