Bake Off star’s fears for BBC’s MasterChef as she calls for Gregg Wallace replacement

Former contestant Ravneet Gill has called for the BBC to not ditch completely, following ‘s recent departure.

The 60-year-old presenter has stepped away from the show after almost 20 years as he faces several allegations of inappropiate behaviour.

As an investigation into the claims gets underway, the has made the decision to pull MasterChef’s Christmas specials.

Following the news, Ravneet expressed her hopes of keeping the show on air with a new co-host for John Torode.

“I mean I really hope that they don’t get rid of MasterChef,” the Junior Bake Off judge shared.

“I, as a cook and as someone who has grown up watching it, I find it such an inspiring show.

“When I was growing up watching it, I used to think, ‘God, I would love to, maybe, one day go on that show’, even though, to be honest, I’m glad I didn’t do MasterChef, amateur or professionals, because [I might have] crumbled.

“But, it’s such an inspiring show to watch, my family love it and if anything, it’s got so many people I know into cooking.

“So, I hope they don’t get rid of it, I think it’s a great show.”

Two Christmas specials of MasterChef had been planned to air on One later this month, but they have now been pulled.

A spokesperson said: “As we have said, MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the chefs taking part and the current series of MasterChef: The Professionals is continuing as planned.

“The celebrity Christmas specials are obviously a different type of show and in the current circumstances we have decided not to broadcast them.”

MasterChef’s production company Banijay UK said complaints made to the come from “individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct while working with Gregg Wallace on one of our shows”.

They added that Gregg, who has denied all allegations, is “committed to fully cooperating throughout the process” of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the ex MasterChef host is reported to have unfollowed his long-term co-host John and his wife Lisa Faulker.

The couple are yet to make an official statement about the allegations.
