His trajectory has elevated to another level at the dawn of Amorim’s reign, flourishing as the right-wing-back in his new 3-4-3 system.

After months of being treated like a fly in the face of Ten Hag, Amad is now one of the first names on United’s team sheet.

However, with every breathtaking performance, anxiety over the Ivorian’s future grows. He is out of contract at the end of the season.

Yet, for now, Amad has made his short-term intentions clear. United’s No. 16 will continue to be the hardest-working player on the pitch wherever Amorim needs him to operate.

“You can’t be focused only in one position,” Amad told the club website. “Sometimes you can play as a defender; sometimes you can play as a striker.

“Wherever the manager puts me, I’m ready to fight for the team. I have no problem to play just as the right winger or no. 10, I can play everywhere.

“Like I said to the manager, if you need me as a keeper, I’m ready to do my best!”

It’s precisely that infectious attitude off the pitch which has complemented his practical actions on it and transformed him into a fan favourite.

Amad has made a habit of using his explosive acceleration and tenacity in the tackle to steal the ball from heedless defenders.

His trademark action created three of United’s four goals in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat of Everton – two of which he provided the assist for.

He made just as positive an impression on his new boss as the 73,000 supporters witnessing in awe within the walls of Old Trafford.

After full-time, Amorim explained: “He was really good defensively and really good attacking, so he has to continue to play like that.

“You could feel at the end of the game, he was really tired, so we also have to manage that, to increase his physical ability.”

Amad played the entire match against the Toffees, but it would be a shock to see him excluded from the United team at tonight.

In a match where counter-pressing will be key to any possibility of a result for the visitors, the bijou ball-winner could once again pack a lethal punch.
