ITV I’m A Celeb fans switch off as they make urgent demand for axe

‘s letters from home segment has been slammed by viewers. Sunday night’s show saw the remaining campmates receive letters from their loved ones which were read out loud to the group.

While many viewers found the segment emotional, , others were more cynical about the long-standing tradition, which has been part of the show since the beginning.

Taking to X @WhitwickFox87 fumed: “These ‘letters from home’ are b*******. Been in the outback for two weeks and they’re all acting like they’ve been on a tour of Afghanistan for six months #ImACelebrity.”

@JenniferGa29345 was equally unmoved by the correspondence saying: “I like the ones sitting there grizzling saying ‘I’m doing this for my son/daughter/random family member to make them proud of me’. Sod off, your doing it for the huge amount of dosh you’re going to pocket at the end.”

@HCAR1990 felt the whole series should be axed writing: “This series is worse than ever…tired jokes that aren’t funny, trials that are like a walk in the park and far too many crude innuendos from Ant …it has had its day.”

@Drmalrob062, who describes themselves as an “army veteran” in their bio on the social media site, raged: “Exactly my thoughts, if they spent 6 months away on operations not knowing if you’d make it home! But 16 days and such emotional response is BS.

@hackabusi chimed in: “I say this every f****** year! Absolutely cringe – all this ‘we’re proud of you’ and ‘you are so strong’ nonsense for a short stint in a controlled forest. Jesus wept.”

However, some viewers were sympathetic towards the celebrities. @catherinerdrake reasoned: “I had a single night away from my two-year-old recently. If I’d received a letter from my husband and toddler in my hotel room I’d have bawled like a baby. Add to that more time, more sleeping on the floor and a lot less food,” adding a shrug emoji to reinforce her point.

star Alan Halsall was the first to read out a letter. He relayed N-Dubz singer Tulisa’s message from her brother Dan, who said: “Keep being the amazing, beautiful, strong caring woman you are, we love you so much, you’ve got this sis!”

McFly’s Danny Jones, who is a favourite to win, then received words of encouragement from his wife Georgia, who revealed that their son Cooper: “Has been watching you with the biggest smile on his face and has been even doing his own Bushtucker trials at home.” She jokingly added: “Is Barry McGuigan coming for Christmas or what?”

Danny then read Barry’s message from his grandchildren. “We love you so much Papa and we are all so proud of you,” they wrote.

Next up ‘s GK Barry and Reverend Richard Coles read each other’s messages. Richard’s brother Will said: “It’s amazing to watch you grow with the rest of your campmates. Alice and Ellie wanted to say how cool it is to now have a trendy uncle. Please ask GK to help with your profile as the next archbishop of banterbury,” they added.

Meanwhile GK’s letter from her mum, dad and her girlfriend Ella read: “I thought I couldn’t love you anymore than I already do but seeing you with a huntsman spider on your head has really done it. You’re absolutely smashing it, beautiful. I can’t wait to see you and give you a big kiss. You’re making us all proud.”

Prior to his elimination radio DJ Dean McCullough’s mum sent him words of support, writing: “The huntsman spiders are the worst for you, and the green ants, and the fish guts, actually everything! Saying that, we couldn’t be prouder of how you have overcome all of your fears. Love you and I can’t wait for a big hug.”

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues nightly at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
