Beast from the East to unleash snow across Britain in days as -9C Polar air mass hits

Britons are set to be blasted with more snow in days, news maps suggest, with bitterly cold conditions rolling in – and parts of the country bracing for -9C.

Forecast data from indicates the UK is in for another bucketing of snow next week, with much of the country set to freeze on Monday next week (December 9).

Large swathes of England are expected to see minimum temperatures of 0C during a six-hour period from midnight that day, including , , , and much of .

Forecast data suggests it could be slightly warmer on England’s eastern and north-eastern coasts, including Newcastle, with minimum temperatures in the low single digits, and rain expected.

Parts of could also see temperatures dropping to 4C. In Scotland temperatures are expected to drop as low -9 in some parts of the Highlands, as the nation is pelted with snow.

Maps show Britain in line for a wall of snow with the length of the nation in line to be hit.

Scotland is also currently expected to get the worst of the snow, with as much as 14 and 15cm of snowfall dropping over several regions, the maps suggest.

Much of England from north to south is also set for snow or rain, with London seemingly in line for both, though the snow accumulation is expected to be much lower than in Scotland.

Large stretches of England’s southwest, as well as Wales and Northern Ireland, look set to avoid the barrage of snow, the map suggests.

The ‘s current long range weather forecast, covering Saturday, December 7 to Monday, December 16, doesn’t mention snow, but does warn a “spell of wet and windy weather is expected to impact many areas for a time into the coming weekend”, followed by “colder, showery and windy conditions then following for the remainder of the weekend”.

After that, high pressure is then “very likely to have increasing influence into the following week with more settled conditions becoming established for a time”.

“This should mean a good deal of dry weather with overnight frosts along with morning fog patches for some regions,” the government agency predicts.

Looking at the end of the time period taken into consideration, the believes there will be an “increased chance of spells of wetter and windier weather returning, these more likely in the north with southern areas having a better chance of more prolonged settled/drier weather”.

“Temperatures varying around average with both some colder and milder spells likely through this period,” the adds.
