Many cleaning products purchased from shops will contain chemicals, and if you’re trying to live a more chemical-free life, you may want to consider binning them and using something else.

But you know when you clean your toilet with bleach, for example, that it ‘feels’ . You’re confident that all the nasties have been banished from it – whereas other things may not make you feel as secure. However, Christina, who posts on as @thermalandoaks, has shared her “two-ingredient all-purpose cleaner” that’s been a real game-changer for her, saying it’s even a great way “to combat food waste” as well.

In the caption of the video, she encouraged: “Use leftover orange peels to make a natural cleaner that costs just pennies per bottle! Use any kind of citrus peels: peels, lemon peels, grapefruit peels, or lime peels!” She said that she “wanted to remove toxic cleaners” from her home, so she wanted to share how she managed to do it so others could benefit from the quick and easy .

She said that it’s so “easy” to make – “Just add the vinegar and citrus rinds to a jar, cover, and let the natural process of infusion take place.” When the rinds infuse with the vinegar, you won’t be left with a vinegar smell either; you’ll be left with a gorgeous “scent for your home”.

She also said that the spray has “multiple uses”, and doesn’t have to be solely used in the kitchen like she could be seen doing in the video. “The citrus oil from the rinds infuses with the vinegar, creating the most amazing cleaning concentrate which can then be turned into natural cleaning products like an all-purpose spray, window cleaner, bathroom cleaner, degreaser, etc”, she said.

Christina also said that if you want the spray cleaner to smell even stronger, you could add “a cinnamon stick or a few cloves”.

Alternatively, you could also add “a few sprigs of a fresh herb: sage, thyme, or peppermint”, using either one, or a combination of all of them, depending on how you want the homemade spray to smell.

In the comments, others shared their tips for making the perfect non-toxic spray. “I put pine needles in mine to make my own Pinesol”, one woman shared.

Others said that to add disinfectant properties, they add a little bit of “rubbing alcohol”, just for peace of mind – but “you don’t have to”. “This is a great natural cleaner, been using this for years, glad to see its popularity growing”, a fan added.
