Storage Wars is arguably one of the wildest reality shows on the small screen.

The series follows a group of thrift dealers as they bid on abandoned storage units that are three months behind on their rent. After getting their hands on the keys, stars search through the junk for valuable items and sell them on for a profit.

A huge part of its appeal comes from its colourful cast of stars, who bounce off one another with unique chemistry any network sitcom would go to war for.

As fans celebrate the 14th anniversary of the American reality show, let’s take a look back at one of the most expensive find on the long-running programme.

When you sign up to the show, you might expect to walk away with a couple of grand after, but many don’t expect to end up being millionaires by the end of it.

But one lucky person managed to walk away with nearly £6million after discovering a bag full of stash in a duffle bag.

Storage Wars host Dan Dotson, who also acts as an auctioneer during the show, explained that he initially didn’t think anything of the lot before the owner discovered the hidden trove.

The owner was able to turn £378 into £5.9million, obviously making a hefty profit off of the once in a lifetime discovery.

Unfortunately, the lucky buyer wasn’t able to hold on the majority of the amount when the unit’s previous owners heard about what had happened.

Dotson explained that a woman came up to him and told him that her husband had bought a unit from him, which contained a safe of unknown contents.

The lady explained that the couple hired experts to crack the safe and reveal its contents. When they managed to prize it open, they found a mind-blowing hail of nearly £6million in cash.

He explained: “Then they got a phone call, mysteriously, from an attorney representing the folks that lost the money and the goods inside the unit.

“They offered $600,000 (£473,200), then doubled it to $1.2million (£957,600) and they gave them $1.2million in exchange. I guess they gave them back $6.3million (£4.9million).”

Sadly, the jaw-dropping episode never made it to air because the dramatic even occurred on a non-filming day. However, there have been plenty of stagging hauls over the years, including a lot that went for $2,000 (£1,500) and contained half a million dollars in gold coins.
