Laura Kuenssberg normally hosts her own self-titled show on Sundays, discussing politics and current affairs on One after Match Of The Day and Breakfast have both concluded. However, she was missing from her post on December 1st.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Victoria Derbyshire was on-hand to step in and backfill Laura’s post and appeared on Breakfast alongside hosts Luxmy Gopal and Ben Thompson to confirm the schedule switch up ahead of time.
Normally, Laura would be on screens from 9am each Sunday but instead, Victoria confirmed to viewers that they would be tuning in to watch her present the weekend programme instead.
Appearing on the Breakfast to provide an overview of what fans could expect, Victoria confirmed: “Good morning to you both, I am standing in for Laura today.”
She added: “Today, we’re going to be looking ahead at the Prime Minister’s plan for change next week as he calls it ‘knuckling down on delivering election promises’.”
Don’t miss…
An I’m A Celeb star replaced the BBC host
Delving into what she had coming up on the programme, Victoria continued: “Pat McFadden described as one of the most powerful people in the whole of government will be telling us about that but also about what next for the assisted dying bill and that cabinet resignation, in the last few days.
“We’ve also got Victoria Atkins from the Conservatives and Laura has been speaking to the film star Cate Blanchett to discuss her new film and AI in the movie industry, all that at 9am, here on One, see you then.”
Luxmy responded: “Victoria, thank you. We will see you, well we will watch you in 90 minutes.”
Victoria Derbyshire replaced the usual BBC star
The reason for Laura’s absence wasn’t mentioned by Victoria, or Breakfast star’s Ben and Luxmy. But no doubt political fans will be grateful that the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star was on-hand to take over – given the assisted dying bill being passed in parliament.
During the week MPs voted in favour of legalising assisted dying for some terminally ill people across England and Wales. The bill has caused quite a stir with many divided opinions.
Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden, will join Victoria on the show to discuss what the government’s next steps may be with regards to the bill progressing any further.

The show kicks off at 09:00 with Victoria in the hosting seat on One. The show can also be streamed via the iPlayer, for those catching up later on.
