Former contestants of have shared what it’s really like to take part in the popular show. The programme sees bed and breakfast owners compete to prove their establishments have value for money by visiting each other’s enterprise and deciding the amount they think is best for it.
Now some of those who have previously taken part have shared their experiences. Posting to , one fan of the show asked: “Contestants on Four in a Bed, what was it like?”
One user replied, writing: “I wasn’t on the show but I stayed in one of the places on Four in a Bed and he was telling us how the contestants were not allowed to socialise outside of the filming hours.
“He was saying how they all snuck out to the pub and they were chased down by a producer who had to sit with them and make sure they didn’t discuss each others properties.”
They continued: “He was also told us that they had no idea where they were going and who they were staying with and that the show was filmed over two weeks. There was a bit of cheating in his series but I can’t really say much about it other than those who cheated were screwed over come payment day.
Four in a bed is much-loved on Channel 4
“Speaking of payment day that apparently took 12 hours to film! He was also saying that they had to keep doing multiple takes for things like being shown to the bedroom and meeting at the front of the b&b. That’s why sometimes it looks so forced and unnatural.”
Other commenters then began speculating about the cheating with them wondering what happened. One asked: “This is super interesting. I’m extremely intrigued about the cheating! Aha.”
Another added: “Me too. The only thing I can think of is deliberately underpaying opponents or lowering your own prices to unreasonable levels so people overpay.”

Someone else penned: “Oh, it’s super unfair when they do that, but hilarious to see the flimsy reasons they come up with!”
One more said: “The contestants always seem to have a hard time judging the accommodation as it’s intended.
“Like they’ll complain a budget hotel has very basic facilities or that a luxury suite complete with jacuzzi is not value for money. Or maybe that’s just them playing the game.”
