has returned to management just 16 days after leaving Manchester United following four games in interim charge.
The Dutchman has been announced as Leicester City’s new boss, less than a week after the Foxes parted company with Steve Cooper.
Leicester are the third senior team Van Nistelrooy has managed, having previously also enjoyed a stint in charge of PSV Eindhoven.
He managed his former club for just over 50 games between 2022 and 2023, registering an impressive 64 per cent win percentage, as well as guiding PSV to the Dutch Cup.
Van Nistelrooy remained unbeaten during his spell as caretaker manager at Old Trafford, having originally been brought in during the summer to act as ’s assistant.
Two of Van Nistelrooy’s three wins in charge of United came against Leicester, with the Red Devils victorious in both their league and cup meetings.
He’ll now be tasked with trying to rescue Leicester from the threat of relegation.

Reacting after being appointed as Leicester manager, Van Nistelrooy said: I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic.
“They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive. I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the football club.”
Van Nistelrooy walks into the job ahead of a hectic period, with seven league matches to come between now and the start of January.
It begins this weekend when Leicester travel to Brentford, with Van Nistelrooy’s first home match in charge against West Ham United on Tuesday night.
Leicester currently sit in 16th, just one point outside the relegation zone.
