Verstappen issues FIA demand over gravel traps
has told the FIA that if they ‘want less problems’ then they must add gravel traps to the outside of key overtaking corners.
These measures were taken to ease track limit violations at the Ring with great success, and many drivers want them implemented at more tracks on the calendar.
“If you want less problems, you have to [add the gravel traps],” Verstappen said. “Of course, some tracks, they’re a bit more difficult than others – but how much do you want F1 to drive on your track? It’s as simple as that.”
Russell reveals FIA rule change in Qatar
has revealed that the FIA is changing the racing regulations to stop drivers from keeping their foot on the gas while being overtaken around the outside.
“I don’t think it’s rocket science,” Russell explained after a meeting in Qatar on Thursday“I think we all feel the same way. If you’re overtaking on the inside, you make the corner and you’re not running off, it’s your corner.
“You want to see hard racing. You want to see drivers battling wheel to wheel. It looks awesome when people are going through the gravel and sparks are being flown up. I think the stewards recognise that. If you’re on the outside being overtaken, it’s on you to yield.
“Right now there is a line in the regulations that says the inside driver needs to leave room to the guy on the outside from the apex to the exit. That’s going to be getting binned off, and I hope it’s going to be from this weekend onwards.”
