A huge swathe of the UK is set to be walloped by a wall of in a few days’ time while much of the country may miss out, the latest show.

Up to 2cm could fall per hour across the west of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and parts of northern England at 6am on December 12, according to WX Charts.

Weather maps generated on Thursday (November 28) show snow falling in Inverness, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Belfast and Manchester on the same date.

Welsh counties including Conwy, Gwynedd, Powys, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Swansea also look set for a dusting.

While Brits in those areas may wake up to snow, many won’t see any at all, with the south of England, Midlands, East Anglia and much of north east England snow free, the maps show.

Instead of snow, most of the above regions will start the day clear, although one weather map shows rain in the far southwest of the country.

No matter where you are in the UK though, it looks as if we will all see a chilly start to the day, with minimum temperatures of -1C in the Highlands, 0C-1C in the north of England, 1C-2C in Wales and the Midlands, and 3C-4C in the south. WX Charts maps show 1C in Northern Ireland.

If WX Charts’ maps prove to be accurate this far ahead of December 12, then the freezing temperatures look set to continue throughout the day.

Netweather’s long range forecast suggests the weather will turn more unsettled from December 9-17, with chances of some cold snaps in northern Britain.

It adds: “This means that there could be snow for some, particularly on high ground and in the north.”

This compares to the ‘s long range forecast, which was updated at 3pm on Wednesday (November 27). It says mid-December will be less settled, with wetter, windier spells and “a risk of some snow” across northern hills.

The ‘s long range forecast concludes: “Temperatures generally close to average through the period, or slightly above in areas which are wet and windy.”
