Passengers who love travelling but loathe travel sickness have been told the best seats to book on a plane to avoid nausea.

The travel experts at have revealed the ideal places to sit if you’re prone to sickness or dislike bumpy turbelence. 

Travel sickness, or motion sickness, is caused by your visual and vestibular senses sending mixed signals to your brain, which then causes you to feel sick.

One way to combat this is to choose seats that are over the wing, as this is one of the most stable parts of the plane.

This is because it is where the plane’s centre of gravity is and, therefore, the central position of the seats means the journey will feel more stable, especially if there’s turbulence.

Another area of the plane that is less bumpy is the front of the plane, so choosing a seat here could help your nausea.

If neither of these are available for you to book, try and secure a seat by the window.

If you have a good sightline outside, you can try and focus on the horizon. This trick helps to align your vestibular senses with the motion of the transport and by synchronising your senses, it can help you feel less sick.

This trick also works well on long car journeys and even a boat trip on choppy seas. 

Another thing that can help travel sickness is ginger – if you know you’re prone to feeling sick try and keep some ginger chews in your carry on somewhere easily accessible.  It’s also recommended that you avoid looking at devices such as phones or tablets – instead, try closing your eyes and breathing deeply. 

Avoid eating a large meal before boarding and stay away from alcohol – instead, take small sips of water frequently to keep your fluids up.
