Meghan Markle has criticised the day her engagement to Prince Harry was announced
While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared delighted in with the , the Duchess of Sussex, 43, later went on to criticise the big day on .
In their 2022 docuseries Harry and Meghan, the duchess did not hold back from criticising the interview, which was believed to have taken place in Nottingham Cottage on the Kensington Palace estate with interviewer .
Speaking on their docuseries, Meghan described the engagement announcement bluntly in three words as an “orchestrated reality show”.
She also went on to say how it all felt “rehearsed”. She said: “It was rehearsed. We did the thing outside with the press, then we went right inside, took the coat off and sat down and did the interview.
“It was all in the same moment. My point is we weren’t allowed to tell our story because they didn’t allow it.”

then made a joke about how the couple had never been allowed to tell their story, to which Meghn laughed and said “that’s true”.
After the episode was aired on , – who conducted the 2017 interview – confirmed she was surprised by Meghan’s comments.
Speaking to , the Radio 4 presenter said she “didn’t know what to make of” Markle’s comments at first.
She said: “What I remember about that day was two people who were excited about their engagement and in love. They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular. There was nothing that pointed to what would happen. It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life.”

The engagement interview took place a few weeks after which both Harry and Meghan said happened at their home Nottingham Cottage.
According to the couple, they were cooking dinner when the prince got down on one knee and popped the question.
Meghan described the moment as “romantic”, claiming that she kept butting in during the proposal to try and say yes before he had even finished asking the big question.
The couple celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary in May this year.
