Jenna Bush Hager turned 43 this week and her kids gave her a set of hilarious birthday coupons.
“So, you turned 43,” TODAY co-host Hoda Kotb asked Jenna during TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on Nov. 26. “What did you and your cute little family do?”
Jenna and her husband Henry Hager share daughters Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and son Hal, 5.
Their children offered sweet, homemade goods and services for Jenna to cash in.
“They made me a poster where they wrote that they were each giving me coupons,” said Jenna, adding, “Hal’s was, he would go to bed early. Poppy’s said ‘foot massage’ — but then she actually changed her mind because she thought it would be gross to give me a foot massage, and she said a ‘hand massage.’”
Mila said “Four free babysitting moments,’” explained Jenna.
Jenna told Hoda that she was also served cupcakes, explaining that she had to “go away” so her family could jump out and surprise her.
The mom shared a family photo, in which she is blowing out her birthday candles while Hal hides his face in his sister’s shirt.
Jenna shared it on Instagram, along with a version in which the family is all smiling.
“Feeling so grateful for all the love … really soaking it in,” Jenna captioned the photo. “As someone wrote to me today, hoping I slow it all down a little so I can appreciate every single second. Thanks for it all.”
Hoda pointed out the authenticity of the more candid photo.
“There’s something about that picture that you showed, which is, just what your life really is at the end of the day — it’s the five of you, the cupcakes, someone is having a meltdown,” she said.
“Hal was having a little bit of a meltdown,” explained Jenna, calling her birthday, “So much fun.”
Jenna added, “I really did feel so grateful for all the people in my life — I feel like birthdays are a fun time just to take stock and be like, ‘Wow, look at how lucky I am.’ I felt that way.”
