I’ve been to two royal weddings and here’s a warning to those who want to scrap the Firm

A former rugby union player who is has issued a warning about what would happen if the monarchy was no longer in place.

James Haskell, 39, co-hosts the podcast The Good, the Bad & the Rugby with Mike, Princess Anne’s son-in-law.

While he knows Mike, 46, and his wife Zara Tindall very well, the former rugby player has also met a number of other royals, including and , and was even invited to their 2018 Royal wedding.

, James – who is one of Mike Tindall’s best friends – said that some royals are not “as great” as others, however did not name who.

The former rugby player also issued a reminder of why the monarchy should be kept as it is, despite debates over recent years about whether the concept of a Royal Family is becoming outdated.

The dad-of-one told The Times: “I’ve spent time with the royals. Some aren’t as great as others.

“They do amazing work — but they’re also a modern family that’s very dysfunctional. I went to Harry and Meghan’s wedding. I went to Mike and Zara’s wedding.

“To those who want to get rid of the monarchy — once they’re gone, they’re gone. There’s no way back from that, so remember that they serve an important role. I love what they do.”

In the same interview, James also gave an insight into what was really like, with most members of the Royal Family having been in attendance.

Mike and Zara first met in 2003, with Mike revealing that their first day involved quite a lot of booze, something he said the couple had in common.

They later got engaged in 2010, seven years after they first met.

Speaking about their big wedding day, James revealed to The Times: “Mike and Zara’s wedding was full of rugby players. It was the perfect combination of ceremony and romance, coupled with the fact that both of them like to enjoy themselves.”
