Meghan Markle has finally spoken out amid swirling rumours that her and ‘s working relationship is under tension. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have made Montecito, California their home, have recently been seen at public engagements solo.
Meghan, the 43-year-old ex-star of ‘Suits’, was spotted last week at a Thanksgiving event without her 40-year-old prince by her side. This follows whispers that the couple’s professional partnership is “in a very bad state.”
However, Meghan appeared in high spirits as she participated in an event for the Southern California Welcome Project, which collaborates with the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation, despite Harry’s absence.
Addressing the speculation, the mother of two released a heartfelt statement on their foundation’s website. She detailed the “heartfelt dinner” for Afghan women hosted in collaboration with Mina’s List, highlighting the year-long effort to foster community through storytelling and providing a sanctuary for Afghan women resettled in the U.S.

The statement noted: “The evening included a shared meal that encouraged open conversation centered on gratitude and resilience. The Duchess expressed her deep appreciation to the attendees for sharing their personal stories and cultural experiences, underscoring her excitement for future gatherings that continue to strengthen these connections.”
The dinner was held at Our Place, a venture founded by Shiza Shahid, where attendees were gifted with new cookware for the upcoming festive season. The Archewell Foundation continues to champion women and foster community through shared experiences, emphasising the importance of unity and support during difficult times.
The Duchess of Sussex is known for her love of Thanksgiving, but she revealed that celebrations with are typically “pretty low-key”. Speaking to Marie Claire magazine, she expressed her joy at being close to her mother, hinting that Doria Ragland will be joining the Sussexes for the holiday.
Meghan also disclosed that one year, they had an unexpected guest for Thanksgiving – feminist activist Gloria Steinem. She reflected: “I was thinking about, in the past few years of having Thanksgiving here, like many of us, I think you always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family, which is really key.”

Last week, Harry, who renounced his Royal duties in January 2020 and no longer carries the title His Royal Highness, attended several Invictus Games events in Vancouver, Canada.
However, the couple presented a united front earlier this month when they came together to honour those who served both the US and UK on Veteran’s Day.
Meghan and Harry are scheduled to step into the public eye in February 2025 for the Invictus Games in Canada. The Duchess has previously suggested that their seldom-seen children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might also make an appearance.
