Why we love it: Finding a good spot to skate is a common pain point for many a skateboarder.

White Rock professional Andy Anderson is looking to change that.

Following a summertime watch release designed by Anderson as part of the Swatch Proteam Collection, the Olympic skateboarder has helped dream up a collection of multi-functional furniture design pieces that are part home decor, part skate heaven.

Created in collaboration with Vancouver-based artists, fabricators and designers Christian and Benny Zenga of Zenga Bros studio, the Skate Break project sees desk cubicles transform into skate ramps — and even a working lamp that lowers into a skateable fixture.

“Why don’t people skate on their lunch breaks?” Anderson asks in a promotional video for the project. “Because there’s no desks that fold into ramps.”

For a truly progressive workplace, the Skate Break project even includes a six-person boardroom table crafted from fir and painted steel that can be transformed into an adjustable pyramid ramp and grind ledge. The centrepiece of the collaboration is a driveable Swatch mini-truck that features fold-down sides to create a ramp and deck. The inventive design is complete with a wood-burning stove.

“I love the process of trying to figure out new stuff. That’s like my favourite part of skateboarding,” Anderson says.

While the Skate Break furniture pieces were created exclusively for the project, Anderson’s bold, yellow Swatch watch, which features glow-in-the-dark details, can be purchased in select stores and online.
