Ruben Amorim looked frustrated at points during Manchester United’s draw against Ipswich Town
Owen Hargreaves claimed that the positioning of Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee against frustrated . only earned a point at Portman Road on Sunday in the Portuguese manager’s first game in charge of the Red Devils.
His side got off to a supreme start with slotting home for his second league goal of the season after just 81 seconds. However, just minutes before half-time, it was Ipswich who claimed the second goal of the game thanks to a stunning strike by Omari Hutchinson in what was his first goal of the season.
The home side looked most likely to claim all three points throughout the rest of the game with United having Andre Onana to thank as the Cameroonian pulled out two magnificent saves to deny Liam Delap. Sat behind Amorim during the game was ex-United star Hargreaves who claimed to know the source of the 39-year-old’s frustration when watching his side.
The former England international said: “He was in front of me, and he was really frustrated, I’m not going to lie. He wasn’t happy with Dalot’s positioning in the first half. Zirkzee’s positioning in the second half made him a bit frustrated as well.”
The 43-year-old suggested that while the United squad continue to adapt to Amorim’s philosophy, fans will soon see some members of the team struggling to get game-time. “Many of these players won’t be playing in three, four, or five weeks time,” he added.
Hargreaves’ analysis looked right on the money following Amorim’s post-match comments as he urged Dalot to get used to his new positional instructions. “Dalot used to pass the ball to centre backs and go inside and play as a midfielder,” Amorim said. “Now he has to stick to this position!”
The 39-year-old could only gain a point against Ipswich Town in his Premier League debut
Following the game, Amorim warned his players of the consequences they could face if they fail to embrace his ideas as he said: “We have two ways: we try to just win games, don’t risk nothing in this moment, and I guarantee next year at the same stage, we will have the same problems.
“The players will be confused sometimes but we have to address since this moment the new idea and try to be better.” Amorim will walk his team out at Old Trafford for the first time on Thursday (November 28) when United take on Bodo/Glimt in the .
