Adam Henson revealed one presenter had a near miss during a Christmas party
Countryfile star Adam Henson has revealed that one presenter on the show had a near miss one as a ‘pretty stupid error’ nearly lead to ‘casualties’.
Writing in his recently released Christmas on the Farm book, shared how a festive get-together of the entire cast and crew almost ended in tragedy.
Bringing all of the Countryfile family together for their annual Christmas party, Adam said that fellow presenter John Craven took it upon himself, as is tradition, to come dressed as Father Christmas to distribute the crew’s secret Santa gifts.
John Craven had been riding an oxen when the incident occurred

Adam explained how the evening had initially got off to an ideal start, after giving John a helping hand onto one of two oxen that had been hired especially for the occasion, to act as make-do reindeers. With a sack of presents on the back of his flatbed trailer, they made their way towards the restaurant.
But, before long, their night would take an unexpected turn, as Adam explained: “As soon as we came into sight, lots of the presenters and crew ran out and jumped on the trailer which, in retrospect, was pretty stupid. There were no health and safety executives around at the time…”
He added: “The oxen plodded on steadily until unfortunately a gust of wind suddenly whipped John’s red Santa hat off his head, and it fell past the face of Philip the ox, who jerked, causing the trailer to jolt forward and everyone on board to jolt too. I held Philip tight and gave him a reassuring ‘Whoaaaa’, my heart in my throat.”

With his heart in his throat, Adam could only watch on as John and the crew narrowly avoided a very nasty accident, that he admitted could have left a few ‘casualties’: “Thankfully nobody had fallen off the trailer and – although there was one scary moment when I thought he might – the ox didn’t bolt with the legend that is John Craven on his back.
“Had Philip bolted, Santa Claus and the whole of Countryfile – presenters and crew – would be sprawled in the mud, probably with quite a few casualties. It was a narrow squeak…”
Countryfile airs weekly on One, with the next episode this afternoon (Sunday, November 24) at 5.20pm.
