was not willing to make any comment on hiring as his new coach, in a sensational link-up.
The bombshell news saw Murray, who had turned to golf after retiring from tennis after the , venture back into the sport where he won three Grand Slam titles.
The 37-year-old Brit , Djokovic, at least through until the end of the in early 2025.
Sinner is the reigning champion of the first Major of the year, a tournament where Djokovic has won a record 10 times, incidentally beating Murray in four of those finals in Melbourne.
The bombshell announcement was made while Sinner was leading Italy into the Davis Cup Final with victory over Australia, defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets in a repeat of last year’s final.
Sinner followed up Matteo Berrettini’s victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis for the reigning champions, who will defend their title against the Netherlands, before Sinner was asked about the prospect of Murray coaching Djokovic in his post-match press conference.
However, the world No. 1 had not yet been informed of the new superstar partnership and insisted that he did not want to speak about Murray and Djokovic, instead focusing questioning on the Davis Cup.

Djokovic’s appointment of Murray indicates that the Serbian star is focused on bouncing back in 2025, after a year without a Grand Slam, though he did win the only accolade previously eluding him – an Olympic gold medal.
And after spending so long trying to outdo Djokovic and seemingly moving on from the game of tennis, Murray is back and the pair will hope with a vengeance, with Sinner and in their sights for the first Major of the year.
“I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net, as my coach,” Djokovic said in their joint-announcement.
“Looking forward to start of the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on the Australian soil.”
Murray added: “I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the off season, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open.
“I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.”
Neither player gave any indication as to whether their time together would continue past the Australian Open, as they plan to take back the crown from Sinner, though the Italian’s focus is squarely on the task at hand and winning back-to-back Davis Cups.
