has admitted that is “probably the best player in the world at the moment” and relishing the prospect of potentially meeting him in the the Players Championship Finals showpiece.
The finalists are the two biggest names in the sport currently and could meet on Sunday evening, having both reached the quarter-finals of the tournament in Minehead.
Littler faces World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker for a place in the semi-finals, where he could be joined by Humphries if the world No. 1 gets over the line against Ryan Joyce.
And ‘Cool Hand’ has shown the deepest of respect for his 17-year-old rival by dubbing him the greatest player in currently, hoping that they can delight fans by meeting in Sunday’s showpiece.
“I think it’s what the fans want,” Humphries told ITV4 when asked about a possible final against Littler. “Whether we give it to them, who knows? In my opinion, it might not be everybody’s, me and Luke Littler in the final is probably the game everyone wants to see.
“I want to be involved in it, he wants to be involved in it, he wants someone to test him, I want someone to test me. He’s playing absolutely phenomenal darts at the moment and he’s probably the best player in the world at the moment.
“I know I’ve got a level where I can match that. It’d be an exciting game. Hopefully I can get to that final and hopefully he can get to that final and give all the fans what they want – a blockbuster game. We’ve still got a couple of games to win yet before we can think about that.”

Littler is in supreme form , fearless in moments of immense pressure, but Humphries would be delighted to face him once again.
“Yeah if you’re not at the top end of darts like playing Luke in finals then I shouldn’t be here,” Humphries added. “He’s the same. He enjoys and relishes them moments of playing in a final with the world champ and the world No.1 and obviously in my opinion he’s one or two, we’re the two best players in the world at the moment there’s no doubt.
“If you’re not looking forward to them games, you shouldn’t be here. If we can get through it and make it to the final, we can create a blockbuster of a game. But we’ve got to get through them first two first, we can’t look too far ahead.”
Humphries wasn’t at his best but still defeated Damon Heta 10-6 in a match where he missed 19 attempts at doubles, but has credited Littler for the motivation to keep improving after advancing to the quarters.
“There were so many visits there where there was so much more to give,” Humphries explained. “You can probably see it in my expression – so many 140s, not enough 180s. I’m trying to keep up with Luke to be honest with you, trying to put in a good level.
“It was a decent performance but a little bit frustrated I felt there was a lot to give there and I didn’t give it. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. I’ve won, that’s all that matters.”
