President-elect Donald Trump has picked Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a Fox News medical contributor, to serve as the U.S.′ next surgeon general.
Trump announced his plans to nominate Nesheiwat on Friday, along with several other key names.
“Dr. Nesheiwat is a fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventive medicine and public health,” Trump said in a statement.
“She is committed to ensuring that Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, and believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their health to live longer, healthier lives.”
If confirmed by the Senate, Nesheiwat will be in charge of “providing Americans with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury,” according to a job description from the Department of Health and Human Services.
As a Fox News contributor, Nesheiwat has discussed health issues like drug and alcohol use and natural disaster relief, Reuters reported. In 2022, she launched a supplement product called B-C Boost that claims to “help strengthen & boost your immunity.”
Nesheiwat completed her medical residency at University of Arkansas Medical Center and currently serves as medical director at CityMD, a network of urgent care centers in New York and New Jersey.
Following Trump’s announcement, a spokesperson for Fox News told several publications that Nesheiwat was no longer a Fox News contributor.
“Dr. Nesheiwat will play a pivotal role in MAKING AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN!” Trump wrote in his statement.
