Hold your breath no longer, dear reader, for the mystery has been unravelled. A former medic from the ITV show spilled the beans, and truth be told, it’s quite revolting.
In a chat with Women’s Own, Bob McCarron, the show’s ex-medic, divulged that the red socks serve a specific purpose: to conceal any blood stains from injuries sustained by the celebrities, reports .
Bob, who has since hung up his medic’s hat, used to respond to any medical emergencies or incidents on set. He noted that the jungle participants are often “bitten by all kinds of critters during their time in the jungle, including leeches.”

To spare ITV viewers the sight of blood, the red socks are donned to hide any insect bites the campmates may suffer. It’s certainly not an image we’d like to dwell on.
