Currently, around 5,000 visitors from the UK travel to Sierra Leone between January and September each year.

But officials now hope that this number will increase with the direct flights making it easier for more people to visit the beautiful African nation.

Carew said: “This direct flight enables immediate access to our beaches, wildlife, and culture.

“It’s a major step in welcoming more international visitors.”

Sierra Leone has struggled with limited air travel options since British Airways stopped its flights in 2014.

The short-lived Fly Salone service in 2016 left a gap that the new Air Sierra Leone flights aim to fill.

Tourism officials believe the flights will attract more British tourists who are eager to explore the country’s natural beauty and attractions.

From the stunning beaches of Lumley and Tokeh to historical landmarks and local festivals, Sierra Leone offers something for everyone.

The government is also working with UK tour operators to promote the country as a top travel destination in West Africa.

Carew said: “What you see is what you get. We are excited to share our culture, history, and natural beauty with visitors.”
