has announced the new location of his hotel just days after calling time on his 23-year professional tennis career. The sporting icon played his last-ever match on Tuesday (November 19) following his singles defeat by Dutchman Botic van de Zandschlup.

with and Marcel Granollers falling to Van de Zandschulp and Wesley Koolhof, who is also retiring this week. The 38-year-old didn’t wait long to make major moves after walking away from tennis with his hotel chain, ZEL Born, announcing a new location for one of their hotels in the Dominican Republic.

Nadal created the chain with Gabriel Escarrer, CEO of Melia Hotels International, last year, with their vision being inspired by traditional Mediterranean homes and their outdoor culture. In what is their first hotel outside Spain, the lavish ZEL Punta Cana will be situated in Cortecito Beach.

The picturesque spot on the Bavaro coast is an idyllic location for any holiday-goer wanting to soak in sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. The hotel, which has 190 rooms, is the third of its kind to be opened following the inauguration of ZEL Mallorca last year and ZEL Costa Brava earlier this summer.

Escarrer spoke of the vision he created alongside Nadal and explained why the Carribean was the perfect option to introduce their business to. “We consider ZEL to be a true Mediterranean embassy and we hope to introduce our lifestyle experience in Punta Cana,” he said.

“Together with Rafa, we decided to embark on this adventure to share our laid-back values and warm culture with our guests from around the world. The Caribbean is a charming destination that perfectly complements the ZEL brand, creating a holiday retreat unlike any other.”

Plenty of activities will be available for guests who can enjoy the spa, the two swimming pools and yoga classes, which will take place in ‘The Studios’, which are three studios focused on wellness activities, fitness, and training. Nadal’s influence is noticeable with the hotel featuring five tennis courts with golf fans also able to enjoy the links at the Cocotal Country Club’s golf course.

Further plans for ZEL Hotels include opening its first urban hotel on Madrid’s Gran Via and further plans to expand into Mexico. A year later in 2026 will see the brand open a location in Albania.
