A beauty guru has shared a controversial piece of advice that could shake up your routine.

Cleansing is a critical part of the skincare regimens for many of us, with ‘double cleansing’ – using more than one product to remove your before bed – becoming increasingly popular in recent years.

While it’s not uncommon for people to cleanse again in the morning after potentially double cleansing the previous evening, cautions against this. She criticises the practice as an unneeded step, and it could be depriving your skin of vital oils.

The , who boasts a substantial following running into hundreds of thousands on and , is a trusted source whose skincare and beauty tips attract audiences far and wide.

The 34-year-old is celebrated for her candidness and dedication to uncovering products and methods that genuinely work, frequently sharing her own results.

In a recent video revelation, she urges: “Stop cleansing your skin in the morning. I spent my whole 20s cleansing my skin in the morning because I thought that’s what I should be doing.

“If this is you; stop. You’ll notice your skin feels less tight, dry, sensitive. Always double cleanse at night.”

It seems many in the know are ditching their morning cleanse in favour of simply splashing their face with tepid water, patting it off gently, and freshening it up with a toner-infused facial mist.

In the comments section, readers engaged in a spirited debate about their morning rituals. One advocated for minimalism and said: “Yes just use water and then do the rest of your morning skincare like normal”, while another shared: “I recently stopped my morning face wash and just use warm water and a microfibre cloth and it’s made such a difference!”

A third penned: “I stopped as well and I live in Humid Houston, TX! It has done wonders! Combination/acne prone skin.”

Yet celebrated skincare expert Caroline Hirons stands at odds with the minimalist approach, championing a gentle cleanse each morning.

The renowned aesthetician and bestselling author of ‘Skincare’ ahead of the book’s launch, asserting: “Let’s be clear on something – there is no double cleansing in the mornings. Wake up, cleanse once, you’re good to go. You have no makeup or SPF to remove. Crack on.”

Despite acclaim, Hirons’ advice meets with some skepticism online. In , one user noted: “I used to follow and respect her. Then, I became an aesthetician and realised how much of her advice is just plain bad for certain skin types.

“Not everyone needs a harsh cleanser in the morning. Not everyone needs strong acids. I have desert-dry skin, so I certainly don’t need those, and neither do a lot of my clientele.”

However, another user was full of praise, saying: “I really like her, she completely changed my relationship to skincare – and completely changed my skin, too. As far as I’m aware, she was the first one preaching double cleansing that has now become a common term, even a marketing slogan for some brands.”
