I tried Eufy’s robot vacuum and it’s leaves my floors streak free and glistening

Robot vacuum cleaners are everywhere at the moment, what with the cleaning market making significant strides in technology. While each new model outdoes the last in terms of features, however, what remains constant is: finding the ultimate vacuum that does it all remains a challenge – and is often a bit expensive.

Thankfully, Black Friday is in our midst (landing on November 29, next Friday), and with it comes a whole host of price reductions – including discounts from tech brand , whose robotic vaccuums have been slashed in price, like the , which has £220 knocked off its usual price tag of £799 with the code WS24BFAP008. It’s also available on for £579.

To give you an idea of what the vaccuum is like, one of our tech writers Gareth Butterfield reviewed the now discontinued of which the X10 is the newly upgraded model, which comes close to ticking every box you could want in a vaccuum. He explained how the impressive gadget is a two-in-one “combo” vacuum, not only equipped for suction but also sporting a built-in mopping function, courtesy of its twin spinning cloth mop heads.

Gareth’s thoughts:

While such combo devices are becoming more common, the takes innovation up a notch. It incorporates a Lidar sensor, a clever bit of technology borrowed from the likes of self-driving cars and space-exploration robots, which scans surfaces to generate a 3D map of your living spaces.

It means your robot vacuum will not be aimlessly bumping around your walls; the sensors revolutionise the way it navigates and maps rooms. It completed a detailed layout of my ground floor in under 10 minutes.

Another essential feature for

Although some robots simply use theirs for discarding debris, the X9 Pro’s home base goes further – it maintains the mop heads too. A built in water tank uses clean water to wash the mop heads and then dries them at an optimal 40C while collecting dirt in a separate tank, reports The Mirror. As for the newer model, it dries the mops at 45°C to help prevent bad odour and bacteria growth.

While wasn’t able to empty the vacuum’s dust bin, the as explained on the website, does. They said: “Its dust bin is emptied into the station’s 2.5L dust bag, which only needs to be replaced every 2 months.”

It also handles recharging duties and tucks itself neatly back in its storage once it finishes its rounds. What’s more is this newer model has an auto-detangling roller brush which “rotates in reverse and the Pro-Detangle Comb flips down to loosen and remove hair that’s wrapped around the roller brush, so you don’t have to”.

The eufy vaccuum is packed with smart features with one of its standout properties is the ability to lift its mop heads when it encounters a challenging surface, such as a rug. This feature ensures that the device rarely gets stuck. Even in my house, where there are thresholds between rooms that most high-end robot vacuums struggle with, the Eufy charges over them effortlessly.

However, this can sometimes be problematic. For instance, it often charges over the small step into my conservatory and then gets stuck on the dog bed on the other side.

Thankfully, the allows you to designate areas for the device to ignore, solving this issue.

The mopping system is particularly impressive, especially with its innovative cleaning system. It does an excellent job on my mix of hard floors, leaving no streaks, just a shiny floor every time. The vacuum function is also robust, boasting a 5,500pa suction, which is about as good as it gets.

Its smart sensors allow it to target challenging areas or perform a general sweep. Compared to its competitors, it’s relatively quiet, and its non-circular shape makes it more efficient at reaching corners.

One of the standout features of the is its ability to recognise obstacles and hazards, such as cables, shoes, cushions, and even pets. It can identify 28 different objects, which is truly impressive.

The devices also integrate seamlessly with Google and Alexa, offering a range of in-app controls for scheduling, setting no-go areas, spot cleaning, and adjusting suction strength.

While the X9 Pro has been discontinued – costing £899 – the While this may seem steep, it compares favourably with the , which lacks certain features like Lidar and self-cleaning mop heads.
