The jungle has been hit by catastrophic floods, prompting a frantic scramble by the show’s organisers to work out a fix.

Local businesses and sanctuaries near the I’m A Celebrity camp have had no choice but to shut down due to escalating water levels, which have rendered roads almost impassable for any vehicles.

While there is no official word on whether an evacuation of the campmates is needed at this moment, contingency plans are typically in place for such situations.

Recalling events from 2021 during -19 restrictions, the cast was forcibly evacuated from Gwrych Castle in Wales after Storm Arwen caused a 100-foot tree to fall onto the castle wall.

Insiders from the show report to the Mirror that despite the deluge, it’s not dampened spirits nor hampered any of the day’s challenges.

They revealed: “The celebrities are a positive upbeat group so they’re not letting the rain get them down, they’re enjoying their jungle experience, even if it is a little wet! “.

The camp itself is situated within Springbrook National Park, Murwillumbah, a location that meteorologists have flagged as being at “significant risk” of flooding from the Moonie River, along with a “moderate risk” from the Dawson River and Warrego River. It’s anticipated that these flood risks will persist through to Monday, November 25.

Three years prior, ITV executives had to pull the show from broadcast for the first time in its twenty-year run due to the havoc wreaked by Storm Arwen on the set and camp. The programme was off-air for three days as contestants were temporarily housed in hotels.

Images from the filming site revealed workers in high-visibility clothing putting in hours to mend the set. Additionally, production chiefs demanded a thorough deep clean of the camp to prevent any -related concerns.

Presenter Declan Donnelly provided insight into the ordeal, detailing that the celebrities had been evacuated from Gwrych Castle on account of safety worries.

He recounted: “We got a call on Friday afternoon to come into site ASAP as we had to pre-record the show just to be safe in case satellites went down. We pre-recorded a trial on Friday and then we went home. When we came back to the cottage, we could hear the wind.”

The situation escalated by Saturday, Dec continued: “Then we got a call on Saturday morning to say basically the wind had pretty much destroyed the tech base. The marquees had come down and trees had been felled and borders had moved.”

With the site deemed perilous, there was no option but to temporarily suspend the production, something Dec expressed they were deeply upset about.

He added: “So the site was unsafe. Nobody was allowed back on site until they’d done a whole geological survey to see what had happened. There was no choice but to just pull the show over the weekend which we were just gutted about.”
