Fans were invited to apply by submitting their names and email addresses, with 150 people set to be chosen via a random draw.The competition was widely mocked on social media, with fans threatening to apply using Michael Masi’s name. The former race director was responsible for bending the rules in Abu Dhabi three years ago, which denied Hamilton a record-breaking eighth title.Masi was later relieved of his duties by the governing body, who put his creative interpretation of the rules down to human error.Other fans posted screenshots of themselves applying for the competition using the names of Hamilton’s former rivals, such as Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg.It seems likely that such names will be vetted out by , who will not want to risk being made into an online laughing stock at Hamilton’s final race.
