Seth Meyers doesn’t want to use up any brain space on this memory of Elon Musk.
The “Late Night” host spent much of Wednesday’s monologue discussing the influence that billionaires, especially Musk, had on the presidential election. Meyers threw back to the time the SpaceX founder bizarrely jumped for joy on stage at a Donald Trump rally in October.
“I keep forgetting about that clip. Not forgetting. I just keep erasing it from my mind. Every time we play that clip, I drink enough scotch to kill the brain cells responsible for storing that memory,” Meyers said.
He pulled out a bottle, poured himself a shot and downed it.
“The worst thing about that clip is what it says about the influence of money in our politics,” he said. “The second worst thing, and it’s a very close second, is the way he jumps.”
Later in the segment, Musk’s jumping moment came up again in passing.
“Oh, fuck!” Meyers said, pulling out the bottle of scotch again.
“It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have brought it up,” he said as he took another shot.
The president-elect last week named Musk and fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy as co-chairs of a new “Department of Government Efficiency,” aka DOGE, which they claim will slash bureaucracy and cut government spending.
