was visibly emotional on this morning as music producer Naughty Boy shared his struggle as a live-in carer for his mum.
The dementia survivor had become increasingly frail and vulnerable after suffering a stroke, and several years she moved into his home, so he could help with her care. Relating to his experience after spending almost four years as a carer for her late husband Derek Draper during his battle with long , Kate was visibly emotional.
She asked: “Can I give you a hug?” and after Naughty Boy, whose real name Shahid Khan replied: “Of course”, she leaned in and confided: “It takes a village, doesn’t it?”
The pair had been discussing how he relies on help from a mixture of family members and paid helpers so that he can balance his caring duties with work in the studio recording his latest album.
The 2021 contestant added that he is dedicating the album to his mum. He also gifted Kate a book on the show which touched on their shared experiences, prompting those in the studio to declare him a “good boy” and not a naughty one at all.

The title he gave Kate, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, was imbued with meaning.
According to the Amazon synopsis, it invites readers to “abandon consumerism in order to embrace destiny, live life to the full and discover joy” as they embark on their spiritual journeys.
When Naughty Boy handed it to her, Kate joked: “I don’t have a Ferrari to sell!” but he clarified that the book was more about being “spiritual”.
chimed in as she watched the pair hug to ask whether there was a “bond between carers” and he replied that there was a shared understanding of “what it takes” to be one and the struggles and sacrifices it often entails.

Viewers were touched by the exchange, with one tweeting: “What a lovely emotional interview, as a carer for my husband, former carer for my dad til his death and a home carer for work, felt every word he and Kate were saying.”
Another exclaimed: “Let’s not beat around the bush, carers simply aren’t appreciated enough! #GMB.”
There were some gripes from those who felt the segment should have featured “real” carers, rather than those who were financially secure enough to be able to employ “a team of paid people”.
However, Naughty Boy addressed this during the show, as he insisted paid carers’ leave should be provided and noted that some are unable to afford to take time off when needed.
