The body of a baby was found in a field in the Greater Manchester area, police said.

Emergency services rushed to Ravenscraig Road, near Ashtons Field in Little Hulton, a suburb of Salford, at about 1pm on November 20.

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have confirmed their attendance at the scene, with the force set to hold a press conference at 5.30pm.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen large police presence and the entrance to Ashtons Field and the Linnyshaw Loopline taped off, reports.

A white forensic tent and a screen could also be seen in pictures from the scene.

Greater Manchester Police says it is investigating and following “several lines of enquiry” to establish who the baby is, how it came to be left there, and how it has died.

Police say they will be referring to the baby as ‘Baby A’.

The force urged anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police with information. Anyone with information can call 101 and quote the number 1319.
