Tommy Fury called Daniel Dubois’ offer to fight Jake Paul ’embarrassing’
Tommy Fury says he is willing to bet ‘everything’ in his bank account that Daniel Dubois will not fight – and labelled the heavyweight world champion ’embarrassing’.
Paul heavyweight legend on points last week, though the fight left boxing purists furious due to the pair’s 31-year age difference. Still, 65 million people worldwide streamed the fight on , including IBF heavyweight champion Dubois. Now the British boxer, who claimed the title in September by , appears to be keen to fight Paul too, with being revealed.
The ‘Problem Child’ took to social media to post a screenshot of an alleged message from Dubois which read: “Hi Jake, Good business on the weekend but how would you feel fighting the legitimate heavyweight champion of the world. This is Daniel Dubois calling you out let’s get it on.”
Daniel Dubois is a current world heavyweight champion
But the American responded to ‘Triple D’ with a picture of a queue ticket, along with the message: “Get in line.”
Fury, who handed Paul the first loss of his career in February 2023, has now chimed in on the leaked messages. The 25-year-old brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury admitted he has no idea what Dubois is doing by calling out Paul, and even called the behaviour of the world champion and Artur Beterbiev – who also called out the YouTuber – as ’embarrassing’.
Former Love Island winner Fury said: “You’ve got to be realistic. Paul isn’t fighting Dubois or anyone like that. You’ve got legitimate world champions of the sport, calling him [Paul] out. It made sense for me because I was at the start of my career and I would have been fighting journeymen anyway.
“If I was an undisputed unified champion, I wouldn’t give a f*** about Jake Paul. I think it’s a bit embarrassing on [Dubois and Beterbiev’s] part. I don’t know what Dubois is doing. The fact he even thinks I’m gonna put it out there because he might bite.”
Jake Paul [L] fought Tommy Fury last year
Paul, who reportedly earned £31.6million ($40m) for his victory over Tyson, revealed he would speak to promoters Nakisa Bidarian and Frank Warren about fighting Dubois. Dubois previously beat Joe Cusumano on a bill that included Paul vs Tyron Woodley in 2021, and later earned £10m for his shock win over AJ.
Paul tweeted: “Man [Dubois] been boxing for 12 years, has over 100 fights between amateur and pro and fought on my undercard hahaha. But f*** it… I’m going to have Nakisa talk to Frankie Warren and get you in line for the throne.”
But Fury believes it is all for show unless Dubois is paid big money, adding: “I guarantee now, I’ll put everything that I have in my account on it, you’ll never see Jake Paul and Daniel Dubois in the ring together unless they write up a contract and offer Dubois £200milllion to go in the ring and not even look at him.”
Speaking about the controversial Tyson fight, he added: “Business-wise and commercially it’s unbelievable. If someone’s making a trillion pound I’m going to say ‘well done, mate’. Both men got paid. Fantastic. But for the fans and everyone who thought it was going to be a fight, it’s a let down.”
