bereaved wife has opened up with a heartfelt family tribute on what would have been the presenter’s 51st birthday. The much-loved TV host died in February at the age of 50 following his courageous battle against cancer.
The presenter is survived by his loving wife, Jessica Irwin, and their three children. On her account on Monday, (November 18), Jessica posted a montage of images commemorating Jonnie, including joyous holiday snaps and a touching selfie of the couple.
In an emotional memorial, she wrote: “Happy birthday my favourite, we had only known each other a few months and we booked to go to Cuba for my birthday. Because that’s what you did. You booked trips, you showed me more of the world than I ever could have dreamed of.”
“The most handsome and best travel buddy, the boys are escaping school this afternoon for cake and love with family.”
Friends and followers quickly filled the comments section with consoling messages.
One heartfelt comment stated: “All our hearts go to you dear Jesse and boys. I know what this feels and is ……. All the strength in the world” while another shared “Very much thinking of Jonnie today and you and the boys too. Hope you all have a lovely afternoon with cake. I will raise a glass of whisky to Jonnie tonight.”
Jonnie went public with his terminal diagnosis in November 2022, revealing his lung cancer had metastasized to his brain.
At that time, he expressed the wish that by coming forward with his story, he might inspire others to “make the most of every day”.
In a heartfelt interview with Hello Magazine, the late Jonnie Irwin imparted crucial advice about taking out life insurance, which he credited with securing his family’s financial future following his passing.
The beloved presenter’s death was confirmed in February, accompanied by a poignant tribute celebrating his enduring spirit.
The homage read: “In Loving Memory. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing. A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage.”
It added: “Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on. Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.”
