Iconic Star Wars prop sells for eye-watering sum as fans ‘can’t get over it’

The iconic helmet that made a memorable appearance during the Jedi mind trick scene in the original 1977 film – which is now titled Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope – has sold for an eye-watering sum.

This particular helmet was one of the notable items included in a vast collection of 1,800 pieces of memorabilia from the realms of film, television, and music, all of which were auctioned over the span of four days.

Among the highlights of the auction was the distinctive helmet and mask that renowned actor Russell Crowe wore in Sir Ridley Scott’s critically acclaimed 2000 epic, Gladiator.

This impressive piece of cinematic history fetched a remarkable £125,000, showcasing the high demand and value of authentic film artifacts among collectors and enthusiasts.

Noel Gallagher’s custom Silver Sparkle Les Paul Florentine guitar, used for live performances, sold for £226,800.

iconic red leather jacket, famously worn during the rehearsal for the legendary Thriller tour, captured significant attention at auction, ultimately selling for an impressive £189,000. This jacket is not just a piece of clothing; it symbolizes the King of Pop’s groundbreaking contributions to music and entertainment.

Another standout item from the auction was a meticulously crafted model vehicle from the beloved adventure series Thunderbirds. This collectible successfully fetched £168,750, highlighting the enduring popularity and nostalgia associated with the show.

Among the notable pieces was Forrest Gump’s baseball cap, a cherished item that sold for £59,375. This cap represents a pivotal moment in cinematic history, closely tied to the heartwarming story of a man who unwittingly shaped the events of his time.

Additionally, Captain Jack Sparrow’s distinctive hat, a staple accessory for the character portrayed by in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, sold for £21,250. This item captures the whimsical and adventurous spirit of the films.

Colin Firth’s quirky reindeer jumper, worn in the classic romantic comedy Bridget Jones’s Diary, brought in £5,625. This charming piece of clothing has become an iconic representation of the film and its beloved character.

Last but not least, ’s weathered duster jacket, which he donned while portraying Blondie in the 1966 classic The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, commanded a noteworthy £75,000. This duster served as part of his character’s rugged persona and remains a symbol of Eastwood’s legendary status in the world of spaghetti westerns.

Recently a pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz are on the auction block nearly two decades after a thief stole them, thinking they were adorned with real jewels.

Online bidding has started and will continue until 7 December, Heritage Auctions in Dallas announced in a news release on Monday. Bidding currently stands at just over $812,000 (£631,000).

The auction company said it received the sequin-and-bead-covered slippers from Michael Shaw, a memorabilia collector who previously owned the footwear from the 1939 musical. Shaw had loaned the shoes in 2005 to the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

However, in the summer of the same year, someone smashed through a display case and stole the slippers. Their whereabouts remained a mystery until the FBI recovered them in 2018.

Now the museum is among those vying for the slippers, which were one of several pairs Garland wore during the filming. Only four remain.Grand Rapids raised money for the slippers at its annual Judy Garland festival. The funds will supplement the $100,000 set aside this year by Minnesota lawmakers to buy the slippers.
