Axed Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans shows true colours in brutal Blackpool scenes

Opera singer became the eighth celebrity to be axed from after he failed to impress the judges when he went head-to-head with .

Following their Charleston performance, which didn’t quite win over the judges at the results show episode on Sunday (November 17) in the majestic setting of Blackpool Tower Ballroom, the performer’s true feelings were revealed before his exit.

The Welsh opera singer proved to be one of the show’s most controversial contestants following the infamous “hand-swatting-gate,” when his pro-dancer partner was caught on camera swatting his hand from her waist. According to body language expert Judi James, the singer appeared anxious following his routine.

Wynne found himself in the bottom two, along with competitor , who was saved by the show judges.

“Their body language together still seems to be over-correcting after both the ‘hand-gate’ drama and accusations they are getting marked up,” Judi explained to . “They appear to be trying to create a non-verbal redress by using sudden bursts of overkill rituals, but these are now in direct contrast to their other behaviours. When they are not doing their huge rictus, ‘We’re so happy’ smiles, their emotional reveals look rocky.

Their signals are looking performative with what are often looking like lightning smiles, i.e big smiles that appear from nowhere, rather than slow-build congruent smiles that seem prompted by actual happiness.

Their rehearsal looked difficult, with Katya showing Wynne a step and standing, pointing at his feet, and Wynne puffing and throwing her a very straight look while hiking his shorts in a gesture that can signal anxiety.”

During their rehearsal VT, Judi suggested Wynne looked a “little bit awkward” at times.

She explained, “They sat apart during their chat and the end routine looked flat-footed with Wynne looking a little awkward with the ambitious lifts. Even their ending lacked continuity. Katya sat looking like they’d nailed it while Wynne glanced down at her with an unsmiling expression of possible disbelief.”

During the judges’ scoring, Wynne appeared unsure of himself and looked rather impatient, according to the expert.

“As they listened to the judges it was Wynne standing looking forward while Katya stroked his arm or stroked his shoulder, wearing her wide rictus smile”, the expert remarked.

“As Katya spoke Wynne clasped his hands and rubbed his thumbs together in what looked like a self-comfort ritual that can also imply impatience or anxiety.”

Despite his exit after a failed attempt to dazzle with Georges Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1:5. Les Toreadors, he remained upbeat, telling the audience: “It’s been wonderful, I’ve got to say. I feel like it’s what Strictly is all about.”

Three of the Strictly judges including Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke opted to save Montell, with head judge Shirley Ballas confirming she too would have saved the Olympian from elimination in brutal scenes on Sunday night.

Following the result, Wynne bowed out of the competition.
