Princess Kate’s mortifying shopping blunder that left her revealing ‘unusual’ name

During time living in a rented farmhouse near the seaside resort of Rhosneigr in Anglesey, she decided to take a trip to the shops.

At the time, Princess Kate and were not full-time working royals and they were often seen doing their shopping at the local supermarket.

In the early stages of their marriage, the couple lived in Wales as William was a search and rescue pilot based at RAF Valley.

Locals would often see doing her food shop or browsing other shops in the area.

But during one visit to a shop, called Funsport, Kate suffered an embarrassing yet relatable blunder – and had to give the shopkeeper her uncommon name, reports .

She was trying to buy a wetsuit and realised she had forgotten her purse so was unable to pay. Oblivious shopkeeper Dave Buckland then asked Kate for her name when she asked if she could reserve the wetsuit to collect later when she had money on her.

She gave him the name “Mrs Cambridge” – a nod to her then-title of Duchess of Cambridge.

An unnamed source said back in 2012: “He was looking straight at her and actually commented that it was quite an unusual surname. He hadn’t a clue who she was.

“She just smiled and said she’d be back. He hasn’t lived it down since.”

This wasn’t the last time suffered an awkward moment while out shopping.

On another occasion, she was out with her two oldest children Prince George, now 11, and Princess Charlotte, now nine, getting new school shoes for them.

While in Peter Jones, in London, allegedly forgot to take socks for the children to try on their new shoes with, report Hello!magazine.

As they were shopping in summer, the two children were wearing sandals and Kate had to borrow socks from the shop to make sure they were buying the right size shoes.

, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, six, all now attend Lambrook. Her two older children previously attended Thomas’s School in Battersea.
