has issued a warning about a common fault that could put motorists at risk of accidents and this .

As the temperature drops and the weather gets wetter, mechanic posted a short video to his YouTube channel .

In , Scotty states that very few drivers remember to change their wiper blades until they notice they are not clearing the screen effectively in the rain.

He explained: “Today I’m going to show you something that’s very dangerous on your car, but also very cheap to fix, and that’s worn-out wiper blades.

“Most people don’t think about the wiper blades because they don’t need them until it’s stormy, but then it’s too late and, if you have to turn them on and you can’t see, you might get in a wreck. It’s not just dangerous to you, it’s dangerous to your car. When the rubber wears down to the bare metal, the metal will quickly scratch your windshield and ruin it.”

Despite not having the warmest of summers, many drivers will be switching on the windscreen wipers in their car for the first time in a while, with some noticing that they are worn out.

In these cases, it is vital that drivers get the wiper blades changed as soon as possible to prevent having their vision obscured by rain or dirt on the windscreen.

Changing the blades can also help drivers avoid being fined £50 and receiving three penalty points on their licence, which in turn can drive up future insurance prices.

Later in the video, Scotty urged drivers to closely inspect the wiper blades fitted to their vehicle, looking for any signs of cracks

He advised: “Do everyone a favour. When your windshield wipers are cracked, replace them before the storm comes.”

Drivers will also be able to tell if their windscreen wipers need replacing if they leave streaks across the screen or make a scraping noise whilst they are moving.
