Midsomer Murders exit ‘sealed’ as fans fear for beloved character

fans think an exit could be on the cards for Annette Badland, who plays Fleur Perkins in the ITV drama.

And while Annette has no plans of leaving the show just yet, taking to a Facebook fan page dedicated to the show, one worried fan asked: “Has Annette Badland left Midsomer? Please let me know.”

Other hardcore fans took to the comments section to share their fears about the character’s exit. Another said: “I hope not, she is brilliant.”

“I hope not I love her,” someone else agreed while a third added: “Hope not she is great.”

Annette, who joined the cast of Midsomer Murders in 2019 as the motorcycle-loving chief pathologist, has become a mainstay on the ITV show now in its 20th season.

In a previous interview with Express.co.uk, the actress opened up about her character Fleur and whether she would ever be replaced.

She said: “It’s brilliant to play an older woman who’s got a very interesting private life and who is very good at her job and can send the blokes up and intrigue them and things.

“It’s terrific, you know, and there should be more – and they exist in real life – characters like that, really.”

Annette recalled a conversation with the producer: “When the producer asked me to do it, they said that one time the person playing the pathologist had been ill and they didn’t know how to get around it when they were filming.”

“Then they said, ‘Oh, I know, we’ll have them send a fax through with the details and Barnaby can read it out.’ And he said, ‘I wanted a new character who could not be replaced by a fax machine.’ So Fleur certainly can’t be replaced by a fax machine!” the actor proudly stated.

Annette isn’t the only actor from Midsomer Murders who thought they could be replaced, Neil Dudgeon, who replaced John Nettles as the lead detective opened up about being cancelled.

In an interview with Radio Times, the actor shared: If they’d cancelled me after one series, that would have been embarrassing! It gets easier, but I try to keep it fresh. Even if I’ve gone through the script 50 times, I’ll look at it again and have another thought.

“It’s still extremely pleasant and I’m extremely grateful.”

Midsomer Murders is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
