Richard Madeley has candidly discussed the topic of ageing, revealing that he often faces accusations of dying his hair. The Good Morning Britain presenter opened up about his experiences with growing older in a recent interview, explaining why he believes he has maintained a youthful appearance on-screen.
The 68 year old TV personality, who rose to fame alongside his wife Judy Finnigan on ITV’s This Morning, shared his thoughts on defying age during an episode of the White Wine podcast hosted by Kate Thornton. Discussing his hair, Richard disclosed that he had light hair as a child which darkened over time, but has turned grey over the past “20 years”.
“I’ve been accused of actually dying my hair lighter, which I always happily and honestly refute. I don’t. It’s funny, again, I’ve kind of come full circle!” he chuckled.
He explained that his lighter hair is usually the result of holidaying in the south of France, where he owns a “little place”. According to the TV star, the “sun lightens” his hair, leading GMB viewers to speculate whether he has added highlights upon his return.
Kate observed that Richard could easily “pass for a man much younger” than his 68 years, but he confessed that he feels his youthful appearance is due to ageing on camera in front of millions. He told her: “Don’t you think that’s because I’ve not actually ever been off… So you know, I’m ageing slowly on camera because I haven’t been away for like five years or 10 years.”
Richard and Judy were the original hosts of This Morning
The television presenter disclosed his vigilant approach to health, emphasizing the significance of monitoring his weight as he ages, describing it as “important” to watch the scales “you get into middle age”.
In other news, Richard waxed lyrical about his wife Judy, 76, on the podcast. He shared that she’s thriving off the TV screen, having taken a step back from regular appearances in about 2015.

Nowadays, Judy channels her creativity into penning novels, with her latest title ‘Roseland’ hitting shelves in 2023.
Richard candidly confessed that Judy continues to “challenge” him regularly, acknowledging that most times, he rightfully “deserves it”. He divulged: “I think, to be honest, she challenges me more than I challenge her, but that’s probably because I deserve it.
“I earn it. I think our family and our friends would say that. It tends to be her, you know, pulling me up rather than the other way around.”
