In his book ‘Unleashed’ – set for release on October 10 – the former Prime Minister recalled a private conversation with Cameron after a tennis match, where the then-PM offered him a top position in the Cabinet if he supported staying in .
Johnson reflected on the political pressures he faced at the time, saying the Remain campaign was the frontrunner in most polls, with many MPs backing it.
He said: “It looked much brighter and happier if I backed the Government.”

During the tennis match at Winfield House, Cameron reportedly told Johnson: “Go with the campaign to stay in and I’ll make sure you get a top-five job in the Cabinet.”
Johnson said he mulled over what roles could be on offer, speculating about positions like Prime Minister, Chancellor, or Foreign Secretary.
But, despite the tempting offer, the former PM hesitated due to his long-standing criticisms of the , having written “hundreds if not thousands of articles” opposing its undemocratic features.
Johnson says Cameron later phoned him in an attempt to sway him further, urging him to consider the future of the country.

When Johnson suggested he was still considering backing Leave, Cameron reportedly issued a stark warning, saying: “If you do that, I will f*** you up forever.”, according to the book.
The memoir is set to shine light on Johnson’s tumultuous political career, from his time as London mayor to his tenure as Prime Minister.
